Rome’s Policlinico Gemelli has once again been named the best hospital in Italy for the fourth year in a row, according to the annual rankings compiled by American magazine Newsweek and Statista R. The hospital has also climbed in the international rankings, securing the 35th position in the 2024 edition of the World’s Best Hospitals list, up from 38th place last year.
The annual list evaluated 2,400 hospitals across 30 countries, considering various Key Performance Indicators, extensive interviews with doctors and healthcare professionals, and patient satisfaction questionnaires.
Gemelli president Carlo Fratta Pasini expressed his satisfaction with the result, stating, “The strength of the Policlinico Gemelli lies in its history and its mission as a hospital at the service of everyone, which combines cutting-edge care and research, but also the training of doctors and healthcare workers.”
The Mayo Clinic-Rochester maintained its position at the top of the World’s Best Hospitals list, followed by the Cleveland Clinic in second place, Toronto General Hospital in third, Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore in fourth, and Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston in fifth.
Italy has five hospitals in the world’s top 100, with the Gemelli leading the way, followed by the Niguarda in Milan (52nd), S. Raffaele in Milan (57th), Humanitas in Milan (65th), and S. Orsola in Bologna (66th).
Other Italian hospitals in the 2024 rankings include the Azienda Ospedaliera Universitaria Integrata in Verona (103rd), Ospedale policlinico San Matteo in Pavia (117th), Azienda ospedaliera in Padua (118th), Ospedale Papa Giovanni XXIII in Bergamo (135th), Presidio ospedaliero Molinette – Aou Città della Salute e della Scienza in Turin (165th), Azienda Ospedaliero Universitaria Careggi in Florence (187th), Spedali Civili di Brescia (202nd), Sant’Andrea in Roma (211th), and Irccs Arcispedale Santa Maria Nuova di Reggio Emilia (215th).
